Specialists in hoof trimming can have different views on which are better – softwood or hardwood blocks. At Shoof we are supplying hardwood blocks as default in our hoof-blocking kits, but offering both blocks for restocking. Hardwood blocks last longer on the hoof, and are probably the most reliable treatment for severe injuries. But these blocks should always be removed after the injury has recovered, so the cow can walk normally again. Softwood blocks do not last as long – maybe 4-6 weeks on average, wearing down more quickly, so do not have to removed at the end. The pack sizes (10 and 12) are to suit the normal applications of a cartridge of Bovi-Bond or Septicare. All blocks are 112mm long.
