What is the best age for first ewe mating?

The age at first mating depends on the weight and condition of the young ewes and this reflects management and nutrition over their early life.  Most sheep are first mated at around 18 months of age whn they should have reached at least 35 kg liveweight.  Some good managers can grow their lambs to 35 kg by 7-9 months of age.
