Hormone Growth Promotants (HGPs) are naturally occurring hormones found in most animal and plant life and are use as supplements in domestic animal production. They are used as slow-release implants containing natural or synthetic hormones that improve growth rates and feed efficiency in cattle.
HGPs have been widely used in Australia since 1979 and in all major beef producing countries around the world.
