Is beef produced from cattle with a hormonal growth promotant implant (HGPs) safe to eat?

Yes, products from cattle that have been given a growth promotants are safe to eat. All living things produce hormones, including plants. The average non-pregnant female adult produces 136,000 times more hormones naturally within the body than the amount that can be consumed from a steak.

There is no evidence of any safety and public health risks from eating meat from HGP treated beef cattle despite numerous experimental reports from both Australia and internationally.  HGP use is regulated by the Australian Government’s Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). One egg contains the same amount of oestrogen as 77 kg of beef.
